Your personal financial records are extremely important for you as an owner of the business you've worked so hard to establish, but they also help the bookkeeper to properly record all your receipts. Should an audit occur, properly recorded receipts will save you lots of time and trouble. Here are some tips for keeping your receipts in order:
VERY IMPORTANT: KEEP ALL RECEIPTS RELATED TO YOUR BUSINESS!
It is imperative that you not use personal checks for business purposes. Make sure that you open a separate bank account for your business and use only business checks for business related purchases
When buying items for both personal and business use, please remember to use your business checks for the business items
It is also very important that you write the following information on every purchase receipt: exact description of the items bought (ex: soap, paper towels, etc), the business check number used for payment, the date of the check and the amount of the check.
